I have heard it said, war is just another form of politics. Why would Putin think it was time to incorporate Ukraine back into his version of the Soviet Union? After Afghanistan, like a Great White, he smelled blood in the water. And when he saw the direction of our military under Biden’s leadership: political correctness, transgender focus, and the purging of the ranks under the guise of ridding our fighting force of white supremist, real or imagined and the latest internal attack, the un-jabbed and asserting that climate change poses an “existential threat” and should be elevated above the nuclear threats of Russia, China, N. Korea or Iran, it was like Biden sent Putin a RSVP card. Why didn’t he do it under Trump? His only experience with Trump was when Trump parked a carrier fleet off the coast of N. Korea, or when he wiped out ISIS, which Obama said was here to stay, or when he wiped out 200 Russian mercenaries, of which Putin claimed no responsibility, or when he sent Cruise Missiles to wipe out a base of Syrian fighters who were firing on civilians, while having desert with Xi; Trump was unpredictable.
NATO and the West have stepped up to fill the gap created by the Biden team in addressing the Russian invasion. Putin is paying a remarkably high political and economic cost for his violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty. Our lop-sided trading with China has made that slave nation so strong, the question of intimidating Xi and curbing his plans on Taiwan is still on the table. He is going in, it’s just a question of when.
